CEO OF YOUR TIME

Your time is your life. All you have of life is time, so what you use your time for must be a worthy investment otherwise you waste your time and dissipate your life in the process. As CEO or business owner, you need to take charge of your time in order to reach peak productivity and fulfillment in all areas of your life. Here are some tips to ponder over:

  1. Develop your life’s Vision and Mission Statements – Develop a vision for 5 key areas that your life revolves around; your spirituality, marriage, career, family and friendships. What is the ultimate role you want to see yourself play in each of these areas and what returns do you want to gain? Your response to these defines your vision. In crafting your mission statement, spell out the step by step tasks or actions you will undertake on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis to enable you achieve your vision.
  2. Focused Decisions and Actions – Whatever decisions and actions you take must be in sync with your life’s mission statement. This makes your life have meaning and it stimulates your passion, courage and determination. Obstacles become stepping stones and challenges to overcome in order to attain your vision instead of depressing intruders that kill your will and drive.
  3. Eliminate Time Wasters – Mentally note activities and relationships that drain you or add very little value to the attainment of your vision. Eliminate these. This means prepare yourself to make some bold decisions. Some friends must be cut off from your life! Some long winding conversations and useless arguments that take you no where must not be started in the first place. Invitations to activities that have extended periods of “doing nothing” must be politely refused.
  4. Develop “You” – “You” are the best investment in your life, so take the pains to develop yourself intellectually, emotionally, spiritually and physically. This means being selective about the information you choose to build you up. It also means creating time for exercise and leisure for a healthy and functional body.
  5. Achieve Balance – Your mission statement must aim at achieving balance in all areas of your life. This means nurturing these areas in creative ways. Some close relationships may not necessarily require your daily presence but you could be in touch regularly through phone, text messages, email etc.

Other relationships may require planning occasional quality moments worth looking forward to. Some other activities could be made more worthwhile through negotiated times that fit within your daily schedule. Find innovative and refreshing ways of achieving balance in your life and this habit will become your lifesaver as a CEO or business owner!
